An Aside on Self Improvement

Self improvement. These days it seems this phrase has evolved into a movement which is without a doubt inspirational. Working towards something bigger brings about unique experiences and growth. I’m always working towards one thing or another. Or 100 things. This conscious effort gives a person purpose and sometimes even contributes to making the world we live in a better place. All that said, I’m going to ask that we also remember to be happy with the people we are right now. Does the person you are ALWAYS need to be improved? Every second of every day? Can’t we just like ourselves for who we are and feel content with that for one fucking minute before we self improve. Let me take this query a few steps (or leaps and bounds) further and ask that we remember to genuinely love ourselves. I mean TRULY love ourselves for who we are right now and the efforts we have put forth thus far. When we accomplish a goal (or even when we don’t), why isn’t it kosher to celebrate our efforts? Unless you live in a bubble, you most likely have contributed to someone, somewhere. Take a moment to reflect and then after doing so, of course get out there and keep working towards the next thing. Sometimes you’ll accomplish something wonderful. Sometimes things won’t work out the way you intended. Do your absolute best and leave it all out there. Your efforts are honorable. The self you are right now in this moment is worth some consideration. -RP
